The System Taught You to Distrust Your Own Signal
We think agency disappears through dramatic oppression. Usually it disappears through micro-adjustments repeated for years.
A nervous system adapts to distortion the same way eyes adapt to darkness. Eventually the incoherence starts feeling normal.

You receive approval for self-abandonment.
You receive belonging for silence.
You receive stability for fragmentation.
You receive social protection for making yourself smaller, slower, quieter, easier to digest.
Then one day your life feels unreal and you cannot explain why.
The body knows, though. The body keeps score of every moment where truth was interrupted before completion.
This is why recovering coherence feels physically uncomfortable at first. You are not merely changing beliefs. You are dismantling survival reflexes built around relational consequence.
And this is also why insight alone changes almost nothing.
A person can understand manipulation intellectually and still organize their entire life around appeasing it.
Understanding is passive.
Coherence is behavioral.
The shift begins in almost invisible ways:
Saying the direct sentence instead of the optimized one.
Allowing silence instead of over-explaining.
Refusing to perform emotional labor for distorted systems.
Noticing where your body braces before honesty.
Staying present through the discomfort of non-compliance.
This is how perception returns.
Not through ideology or identity. Not through endless self-analysis.
Through repeated contact with unfragmented action.
Your signal does not become clearer because the world approves of it.
It becomes clearer because you stop negotiating against it.
