The Great Redistribution of Agency
Every nodal cycle changes the questions we are collectively asked to answer.
For the last eighteen months, with the North Node in Pisces, the question has largely been: Can you trust what cannot yet be measured?
Now the question changes entirely.
As the North Node enters Aquarius and the South Node settles into Leo, the field pivots from personal identity toward systemic coherence.
Not: Who are you?
But: Can the systems you inhabit actually recognize who you are?
For years we’ve been taught to understand Aquarius as innovation, community, technology and the future. And that’s not wrong. It’s simply incomplete. Because before Aquarius builds anything new, it asks a much more uncomfortable question: Does the structure allow intelligence to circulate?
Everything else follows from that.
This is where I believe modern astrology often misses something essential. Rather than asking, “What does Aquarius represent?”
I find it more useful to ask, What does an Aquarian current require in order to remain coherent?
And the answer isn’t technology. It isn’t progress. It isn’t even humanitarianism. It is feedback.
Aquarius cannot function without living feedback. A healthy Aquarian system allows information to circulate freely. Errors become visible. Corrections become possible. Individuals affect the whole. The whole responds. Agency survives.
Now ask the opposite question.
What happens when an Aquarian current moves through systems that suppress feedback?
Innovation becomes surveillance. Community becomes conformity. Networks become mechanisms of control. Technology amplifies obedience instead of intelligence. People begin performing participation without actually influencing anything.
The system still appears functional. But internally agency has collapsed.
This is why I think this nodal cycle may become one of the most revealing we’ve experienced in decades.
Not because Aquarius “rules technology.” Because Aquarius reveals whether a system can still learn.
Agency is impossible without feedback
This has become one of the central ideas in my work. Agency isn’t simply freedom. Agency is the lived experience that your participation changes reality.
Action.
Response.
Recognition.
Adjustment.
Repeat.
When that loop remains intact, people naturally become more coherent. They trust perception. They adapt. They learn.
But when responses become arbitrary, when institutions no longer respond, when effort no longer correlates with outcome, when perception itself is outsourced, the nervous system begins learning something else:
“My actions don’t matter.”
This is not merely psychological.
It is biological.
Eventually people stop acting as agents altogether. Not because they are incapable. Because the environment has ceased rewarding coherent participation.
Meanwhile, the South Node enters Leo
Most interpretations reduce this to ego. I don’t think that’s sufficient.
Leo isn’t simply ego. Leo is authorship. Creative authority. The courage to radiate from one’s own center.
The South Node doesn’t mean Leo is bad. It asks us to examine the forms of Leo that no longer generate coherence.
Where has identity become performance?
Where has leadership become branding?
Where has visibility replaced contribution?
Where are we confusing recognition with legitimacy?
These become essential questions over the next two years.
Looking back: 2007–2009
The last North Node in Aquarius coincided with the rapid expansion of networked life. The smartphone era accelerated. Social media transformed from niche platforms into infrastructure. The global financial crisis exposed structural fragility. Trust in institutions fractured. New forms of decentralized participation emerged alongside unprecedented centralization.
Not because the nodes caused these events. But because these events illustrate the kinds of tensions the symbolism invites us to examine.
Today those same questions return—but at a different scale. The question is no longer whether we can build networks. We’ve done that.
The question is whether those networks still preserve human agency. Or whether they merely simulate participation while concentrating decision-making elsewhere.
Jupiter’s role
One detail particularly catches my attention. For much of this nodal cycle, Jupiter travels alongside the South Node.
Symbolically, Jupiter expands whatever it touches. That expansion could manifest as an amplification of old narratives around authority, certainty, ideology, charisma, or grand visions associated with Leo’s shadow expression.
It could also amplify generosity, creativity, and genuine leadership where those qualities are already grounded.
Expansion, by itself, isn’t inherently good or bad. It magnifies. Which makes discernment especially important.
Then something changes
Near the end of the cycle, Jupiter moves on. Juno approaches the South Node.
That symbolism fascinates me.
Mythologically, Jupiter and Juno are inseparable. Power and covenant. Expansion and commitment. Authority and relationship.
The emphasis shifts from: “Who has influence?” to “What agreements are we still living inside?”
That feels profoundly relevant. Because every system ultimately rests upon agreements. Some conscious. Many inherited. Some life-giving. Others no longer examined.
Perhaps the closing movement of this transit isn’t asking us to dismantle institutions. Perhaps it asks us to renegotiate the contracts beneath them.
The invitation
I don’t think the North Node in Aquarius is asking us to become more technological. Nor more rebellious. Nor more collective.
I think it asks something both simpler and more demanding: Does the system you’re participating in become more intelligent because you are inside it?
Does it respond? Can it learn?
Can you?
Because coherence cannot be imposed. It emerges wherever feedback is honored, movement is allowed, and participation genuinely matters.
That is true of a nervous system. A family. A relationship. An economy. A civilization.
And perhaps that is exactly the experiment we are entering now.
